There are several symptoms that can indicate you have a urinary tract infection. The symptoms can be mild or severe. Some people have several symptoms and others don't have but a couple. It is always a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor to see what the situation is if you think you may have such an infections.

The urge to urinate more often then before is the most common symptom. When you do urinate, there could be burning sensation and you don't produce very much urine. There can be cloudy appearance to the urine and it may have a stronger than normal smell to it. If you notice any blood in the urine, you need to seek medical attention right away. This could be a sign that there is something wrong with the kidneys.

Some women experience pain around the pelvis and this is due to an inflammation there. Vagina itching and dryness can also occur. For males, they may experience pain around the rectum. There could be some tenderness around the penis too but this isn't as common as other urinary tract infection symptoms.

Pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse can be the result of a urinary tract infection. Should it move into the kidney area, you may feel pain that is from your lower back all the way to the middle of the back. This type of symptom is a key indicator that you have a significant infection, so don't ignore it.

It can take several days for urinary tract infection symptoms to start going away after you get antibiotics. In the mean time, avoid sexual activity, empty your bladder often, and drink lots of water. You can also take pain reliever medications if you need to in order to help reduce the level of discomfort that you feel.

If you don't start to feel better in a couple of days, let your doctor know. You may need a stronger antibiotic. The urinary tract is very complex and it has to function properly for other bodily functions to work well too.
