Understanding Erectile Dysfunction
When a man has erectile dysfunction, also referred to as ED, he will have difficulty getting and maintaining an erection. He may still wish to engage in sexual activities and even be exposed to such stimulation. However, there isn't the right amount of blood flow getting to the penis or staying in the penis for him to have an erection. Many men associate their manliness with the ability go get an erection. That is why this is something they often hide out of embarrassment.
There are many causes of erectile dysfunction. The most common one is that as a man gets older, he produces less testosterone. There can be lifestyle choices responsible for it as well. They include drinking often, poor diet, being overweight, and a lack of exercise. The use of various forms of medications for other health problem can also lead to erectile dysfunction.
When a man isn't getting enough rest, he may be too fatigued for sexual activity. This can be part of why erectile dysfunction occurs for those that burn both ends of the candle on a regular basis. Too much stress or emotional problems taking place can also prevent a man from successfully getting or maintaining an erection.
While ED is more likely to occur as a man gets older, it can affect a male at any age. In order for a man to successfully get an erection, he has to be stimulated with the brain. Then that sends a message to the penis and that enables the blood vessels to relax. If they remain tight, then the amount of blood necessary for an erection can't flow through them.
Men that suffer from erectile dysfunction may become very upset or depressed about it. They can isolate themselves from others and they may do all they can to hide it. There are millions of men with this condition, but it still remains one that most men are very secretive about.
By changing lifestyle habits, most males will be able to once again obtain and maintain erections naturally. Other males may want to look into the use of prescription medications including Viagra and Cialis.
